What is the difference between European cloud servers and American cloud servers?

  As the two most mature cloud computing infrastructure regions in the world, Europe and the United States provide abundant cloud resources and diverse service options, becoming the first choice for many companies to deploy overseas. However, many people face a common problem when choosing deployment nodes: What are the differences between European cloud servers and American cloud servers? Which one is more suitable for their own business scenarios?

  Differences in network connection and access delay

  Network connectivity is an important indicator for evaluating the quality of overseas cloud servers, especially for services for users in different regions such as Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Access delay performance determines the user experience.

  Network characteristics of US cloud servers:

  The latency to mainland China is lower than that of European nodes, about 150~220ms on the west coast (such as Los Angeles and San Jose) and slightly higher on the east coast;

  It has more advantages in covering users in North America and South America, especially in the United States, Canada, and Brazil;

  Most nodes support CN2 GT, CN2 GIA and other lines, which are suitable for deploying cross-border business between China and the United States;

  The North American Internet backbone is complete, and the access speed to the international backbone network is fast, which is suitable for API and CDN reverse generation deployment;

  Network characteristics of European cloud servers:

  The access latency to mainland China is usually in the range of 200~300ms, slightly higher than that of the United States;

  It has obvious advantages in covering EU users, the United Kingdom, Russia, and Eastern Europe;

  European IXPs are mostly used for backbone interconnection, and the intranet interconnection in Europe is very fast;

  The connection quality for the Middle East, North Africa and other regions is higher than that of US nodes;

  In summary: US cloud servers are suitable for service scenarios deployed simultaneously in America and Asia, while European cloud servers are more suitable for serving Europe and surrounding emerging markets.

  Bandwidth quality and network stability comparison

  Bandwidth cost and availability are one of the core elements of evaluating cloud server operating costs, especially for high-traffic services (video, live broadcast, e-commerce, AI training).

  Bandwidth characteristics of US cloud servers: sufficient export bandwidth, relatively low price, support 100M, 1Gbps or even 10Gbps unlimited traffic; most cloud hosts provide high-quality BGP lines covering the world; suitable for deploying global access services, supporting cross-continental distribution architecture;

  Bandwidth characteristics of European cloud servers: excellent bandwidth quality, very stable local access in Europe; relatively cheap bandwidth prices in France, Germany, the Netherlands and other places; slightly less stable export links to China and Southeast Asia; more suitable for regional content hosting, website acceleration, and EU data exchange platform construction;

  Therefore, if the business consumes a lot of global bandwidth and is cost-sensitive, US cloud servers have more obvious advantages; if it is mainly based on local traffic, European nodes also have stable performance.

  Differences in language services and customer support

  Technical support capabilities determine the recovery efficiency of the server when a failure occurs. Especially for users in non-English-speaking countries, language barriers are an important dimension that needs to be evaluated.

  U.S. cloud service providers: Technical support is mostly in English, and some platforms provide Chinese customer service; enterprise users can choose advanced support plans, and paid services respond promptly; the community is active, the documentation is rich, and the API functions are highly mature;

  European cloud service providers: More platforms support multilingual customer service in French, German, Dutch, etc.; local IDC providers support Chinese email/work order services; customer service response time varies depending on the service level, and advanced packages respond faster;

  For companies with mainly Chinese teams and lack of overseas IT engineering experience, cloud service providers that support Chinese communication should be given priority or cloud platforms with service providers that have branches in China should be selected.

  How to choose the cloud server region that suits you?

  Whether to choose a European or American cloud server depends on factors such as your business target market, data compliance requirements, budget constraints, and technical architecture design:

  If the target market is EU customers, GDPR compliance needs to be emphasized, and it is recommended to give priority to European cloud servers;

  If you have high requirements for global access performance or focus on large bandwidth and cost-effective computing resources, American cloud servers are a more suitable choice;

  Hybrid cloud architecture deployment has become a trend. The master control node can be deployed in the United States, and user data mirrors or front-end nodes can be established in Europe to improve the overall network redundancy and access speed.

  No matter which region you choose, it is recommended to deploy supporting services such as CDN, multi-line optimization, and DNS intelligent resolution to further improve the actual access efficiency and business stability of the server.
